George Museum traces the history of the town to its origins as a Dutch East Indian Company outpost established in 1777 and has a special focus on the timber industry. The museum displays old tools and implements used in the timber trade of long ago, as well as a yellowwood remake of the woodcutter’s cottage and old, majestic wooden wagons. The Sayers Hall features an art gallery, and upstairs, an exhibition is dedicated to the forced removals that marked the Apartheid regime.
