Garden Route National Park Wilderness

Description

The Garden Route National Park is situated in the heart of the Garden Route, South Africa. It is a fascinating combination of rivers, lakes, estuaries and beaches, unfolding against the backdrop or lush forests and imposing mountains. During spring, the area is beautifully blanketed by a kaleidoscope of colourful blossoms, further enhancing its profound beauty. The beautiful and popular Wilderness section is gently nestled between the bustling towns of George and Knysna.

The Wilderness section of the SANPark is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, offering a diverse range of outdoor experiences across its four main zones:

  • Ebb and Flow Restcamp – This scenic section features a stunning hike to a waterfall, a picnic area, boat rides, and canoe rentals. Accommodation and camping facilities are also available, making it an ideal spot for an immersive nature retreat.
  • Wilderness Lagoon (Touw River) – Located just opposite Wilderness Beach, this tranquil spot allows visitors to braai, swim, and bring their own non-motorised water toys for a fun day by the water.
  • Island Lake – A perfect place for a relaxing picnic and enjoying the water. There are limited picnic lapas available, so be sure to arrive early on hot weekends or holiday days to secure a spot.
  • Woodville Big Tree – Home to a majestic Yellowwood tree, this area offers two hiking routes of different lengths, both shaded under the lush forest canopy. A picnic area is also available for visitors to enjoy.

Please note that gated sections of the park have entry fees applicable. Plan your visit and experience the beauty of the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park.
