Rising dramatically from the urban edge of George, the Outeniqua Mountains offer a perfect playground for outdoor enthusiasts. The Mountain Ultra Trail (MUT) racecourse, meanwhile, weaves through hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails, taking runners through the heart of this natural wonderland. Moreover, the peaks of the range reach an impressive 1,578 meters above sea level, while the trails wind through verdant valleys and along ridgelines that offer awe-inspiring views. What sets the MUT by UTMB apart is its challenging terrain combined with the beauty of the surrounding environment. Runners will experience dramatic changes in scenery. From the lush greenery of the forests to the rocky outcrops at higher altitudes. High points along the route provide breathtaking panoramic views of the Indian Ocean to the south. Whilst to the north, the arid Karoo unfolds, creating a stark but stunning contrast.
