The Garden Route Dam is a key water reservoir located just east of George. It serves both as a crucial municipal water supply and a popular nature-based recreation area, forming part of the scenic Garden Route region. While the dam itself is used primarily for water storage, the area around it is open to the public and popular for hiking and trail running (well-maintained trails with scenic views), mountain biking, picnicking and nature photography. Please note swimming is not permitted due to its function as a drinking water source.
